BORDER FORCE NEWSLETTER
Poole Maritime Team Border Force 2nd Floor Portcullis House New Harbour Road (South) Poole Dorset BH15 4AJ Tel: 01202 579233  Email:poolegmteam2@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk Website:https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/border-force November 2016 NEWSLETTER 08/16 Dear Ladies and Gentlemen This is the first of our seasonal Newsletters. We have had a large influx of migrants in Poole Port recently from both the Cherbourg and Bilbao ferry arrivals. The largest single detection from Bilbao was a group of 9 males aged between 18 and 36. The largest single detection from Cherbourg was a group of 18 including children and elderly people. There have been several instances of detections of one or two migrants. Operation Spool is the multi agency plan to deal with a mass migrant detection in Dorset, Hants and Devon. It was prepared by Border Force, but agreed with local Government Departments. This was recently discussed at the Local Resilience Forum in Dorchester and could well be initiated now that the Calais transit camp has been closed. It is anticipated that the Organised Crime gangs targeting the South West Coastline will increase their activity following the displacement of people from Calais and the surrounding areas. Whilst that has seen a significant increase in detections at the Ferry Port it is inevitable that small craft are being used in order to bypass controls. In the event that you discover a boat or RHIB with migrants onboard or trying to land on our coastline, you should call 999 initially, then call our contact number above. If you see or hear anything suspicious please let us know! The Poole Maritime Team have engaged with many of you over the last three months. We have been attending your meetings, AGMs and generally visiting you for a chat. If your club or organisation will benefit from one of the Team attending your meetings, please email details to poolegmteam2@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk and we will do our best to attend.
